Bobby Ogburn "The Mighty Burner".

Created by Cheryl 13 years ago
Robert Louis Ogburn was born in South Hill, Virginia on May 08, 1942. Bobby was a powerhouse personality and an influence on so many people's lives. As a showman few could match Bobby's dynamic charisma. Bobby was a natural musical genius, a singer/songwriter with an abundance of talent and the abitlity to lift people's spirits, and make them laugh with his amazing sense of humour. As a young boy Bobby worked as a roadie where he worked with and formed close associations with such greats as James Brown and the Drifters on Soul Train when he was discovered and produced by Lilliane Clairbourne. He later served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, and as a Police Officer in Washington DC, but he always returned to his musical roots. Bobby moved to Queensland Australia in 1976 where he ruled the Brisbane and Gold Coast nightclub scene in the 1970s and 1980s as a DJ in the discos and nightclubs, and performing with his own bands. He openned "Ogburns Bistro" on the Gold Coast which was the place to party for the soul seekers. Bobby also hosted his funk/soul radio show on Brisbane's radio station 4IP. He formed his own bands Silver City Junction, The Soul Review, The Mighty Burners, Afrika, and Chocolate Fudge, and is part of Australian music history in the local club scene. Bobby was self taught as a musician and music flowed naturally from the depths of his being. His musical style could be compared to Ronald Isely, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, and Marvin Gaye. Bobby continued his career performing in Jazz, Reggae, Calypso, and RnB bands throughout his life. Having a deep spiritual belief he recorded a Gospel CD later in his life which was one of his last musical works. Other artists he performed with during his career were Keith Casey, Wiley Reed, Bobby Blackdog, Gavin Richmond, Mike Green, Blackpearl, Steve Armstrong, Lilliane Nicol, Benny Alvarez, John Forbes, Joe T, Billy Knight, Tricky, Gilbert and Liza, Larry Martinez, The Trinidad Calypso Band, JJ Renaud, Gavin and Alvin, amoung many others. A huge thanks goes out to all his colleagues and friends for all their support over the years. Bobby was diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease in late 2006 and sadly lost his battle to the disease on 23 may 2007. During his life Bobby raised awarness of many charities through his music and it is our hope that this site will help to raise funds for The Motor Neurone Disease Association in his memory. Bobby put his heart and soul into his music, his family, and into his work. Bobby will live in all of our hearts... My heartfelt gratitude goes to Lilliane Nicol for her help and support in the setting up of this site, and to other family members, and friends for all their contributions, Cheryl Ansah.
